Unbounded Walker-Sea Urchin Elf
Description
There is an urgent need for a spherical survey robot that can explore dangerous environments, which can flip omni-directional, move smoothly, and can flexibly explore places that are difficult for people to enter or dangerous; and this new type of robot can overcome the problems of existing spherical robots. These robots also need to be able to hide their components within themselves, protecting their integrity. Drawing inspiration from sea urchins, we propose an extension based on telescopic spine-like manipulators that are evenly distributed on the surface of a pendulum-based spherical robot. Through the combination of the shape of the sea urchin and the telescopic actuation mechanism through the morphological bionics design, the robot has the ability to move in the full plane, and has a certain ability to cross the obstacle, and still has excellent comprehensive movement performance under the premise of single degree of freedom drive, with high bionics and good camouflage performance. Compared with biological sea urchins, they can operate normally on land for a long time, have amphibious functions, and can also be used for exploration of narrow and high-risk environments such as underground caves and personnel search and rescue, with good economy and wide applicability.
